Dance in the Face of Various Deaths

HD Video, 2013, 13:38

Inspired by the resilience of the Native American Community in the Northwest, “Dance in the Face of Various Deaths” relates the need for resilience to endure my low wage, unfulfilling retail job and how dance becomes the form that reminds me of the greater planet outside and inside myself. A big thank you to the Native Portland Community Drummers at NAYA whose sounds are heard in the piece.

Created with Center on Contemporary Art (Seattle, WA) during my artist residency inside an experimental space in Portland, Oregon that functions as a working archaeology lab for Willamette Cultural Resources. Thank you: Theresa Smith at NAYA, David Ellis, and David Francis.
