A meditation on control and power in the name of “helping out”.
Red ants rule the ground in Cebolla Canyon, New Mexico. Their giant hills sit at the center of cleared circles of dirt about 10 feet in diameter with each colony spaced far apart from each other. The hills were covered in tiny pieces of twigs so in my good intention to work with them, I added some more twigs. But, after I did that and watched them, I saw that they were working together to remove the twigs that I had “helped out” with. So, then I began to help remove the twigs, too.
